Degree of freedom
In statistics, degree of freedom is the number of independent values that are free to vary. Degree of freedom is typically culculated by subtracting one rom the number of data points.

- In statistics the degree of freedom is the number of values in the calculation of a statistic that are free to vary. To calculate the degree of freedom for a chi-square test you count the number of rows and subtract 1 and multiply with the number of columns with 1 subtracted [1].
- Degrees of freedom refer to the maximum number of logically independent values, which may vary in a data sample. Degrees of freedom are calculated by subtracting one from the number of items within the data sample. [2].
