P value

A p value is the probability of obtaining the event if the null hypothesis is true.



Definitions in the literature

  • A p value is the likelihood of obtaining one’s data if the null hypothesis is true [1].
  • In the frequentist hypothesis-testing framework, the P value is defined as the probability of observing events as extreme or more extreme than the observed data, given that the null hypothesis (H0) is true [2].
