Cell cycle

The cell cycle is the sequence of events in the life of a cell from one cell division to the next.

The celll cycle is typically divided into four main stages:

  • the M phase consisting of mitosis and cytokinesis
  • the G1 phase with a high rate of cell growth
  • the S phase with the DNA replication event
  • the G2 phase for the final preparation for the M phase
