Spillover
In psychology, “spillover (behavioral spillover)” refers to a phenomenon that the adoption of one behavior causes the adoption of a different behavior.
The behavioral spillover can be classified into four categories [CC BY, Ref. 1].
Definitions in the literature
- Described as a narrow definition in [1]: In particular, behavioral spillover can be defined as the observable and causal effect that a change in one behavior (behavior 1) has on a different, subsequent behavior (behavior 2).
- A good example in intervention studies [2]: A plausible explanation for lack of significant differences between the control and intervention groups in the present study is the spillover effect. Children in the interventions classes explained energetically, and in detail, what they used to do during the program sessions to children in the control group.
