Rod cell
The rod cell, sometimes simply called rod, is a photorecepter cell present in the retinas. The rod cells are sensitive to low-intensity lights and give low-resolution images.
The retina contain another type of photoreceptor cell, cone cell, which transmit information about color and mainly uses high-intensity lights.

Definitions in the literature
- A type of light-sensitive receptor cell present in the retinas of vertebrates. Rods contain the pigment rhodopsin and are essential for vision in dim light [1].
