Keratinocyte

Keratinocytes are highly specialized epithelial cells that are found in all four layers of the epidermis.

Keratinocytes differentiate from epidermas stem cells, which are located in the lower part of the epidermis, and migrate to the surface of the skin where they serve as a barrier against environments.

  • Epidermal keratinocytes (skin cells) are highly specialized epithelial cells designed to perform a very specific function, separation of the organism from its environment [1].
