Computational biology

Computational biology is a relatively new subfield of biology that involves development and application of computational methods such as big data analysis, mathematical modeling, and comuputational simulation.

While it is impossible to completely eliminate overlap between computational biology and bioinformatics, but NIH's definition in 2000 stated that bioinfomatics includes data acquisition, storage, archiving, analysis, and visualization for understanding organisms [1].

Definitions in the literature

  • The development and application of data-analytical and theoretical methods, mathematical modeling and computational simulation techniques to the study of biological, behavioral, and social systems [1].
